JOB SUMMARY
•Overall responsible for the planning, coordination, and safe execution of all vessel movements within the boundaries of Dammam Shipyard, also ensuring all labour, material and equipment requirements are met.
•Maximises the availability of all Marine Section assets through condition monitoring routines, planned and preventative maintenance and repairs, and manages completion of all Class or other 3rd Party surveys or test requirements, and ensuring timely close out of findings. Assets include but are not limited to floating docks and berths, all associate fixed and mobile equipment, and fixtures and fittings.
•Coordinates with Maintenance and Production to complete all maintenance, repairs and upgrades necessary to maintain these critical Marine Section assets in a safe and operable condition, while supporting continuous operational activities.
•Escalates to Operations management in a timely manner when critical support is not being provided.
•Provides guidance, support, and advice to ABIC management as subject matter expert on marine operations.
•Maximises dock and berth availability in support of Commercial occupancy and throughput targets.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES
•Broad operational experience for effective leadership of the Marine Section, and the organisational and time management skills necessary to plan and coordinate all vessel movements within the boundaries of Dammam Shipyard.
•Possesses the knowledge, experience, capability and authority to train, coach, mentor, and discipline ABIC employees in all aspects of marine operations.
•Technical knowledge for effective risk assessment and risk mitigation for marine operations, ensuring safety of life, property, and the environment, while maximising service time of critical marine assets.
•Skilled in the leadership of diverse teams. The Marine Section includes a Docks operation and maintenance team plus several support service functions – riggers, dock and pier crane operators, forklift operators, cleaners, and carpenters.
•Communications skill with specific experience as a radio operator and of radio communication practices and etiquette.
•Always seeking to improve, proposing and introducing new procedures, work methods and systems to deliver both time and cost savings.
•Proactive and dedicated with a can-do attitude.
•Team building mentality.
•Able to work under pressure and manage stress, requiring good time management skills.
•Good IT skills including the Microsoft Office suite of applications and ideally having experience of planning applications and ERP systems.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE
•Degree in Mechanical Engineering and/or Marine Engineering and/or Naval Architecture.
•Minimum 10 years’ experience in a ship repair yard or equivalent in a similar role, possessing extensive knowledge of ship & rig repair & conversion activities, floating dry dock operations, berth management, and vessel operations in and around ports.
•Speak, read, and write English fluently.
•Arabic speaking, though not an absolute requirement, would be highly advantageous.
