Description:
The General Manager / COO is critical in developing and managing an Algeria Farm complex, including its design and operational management. Reporting directly to the CEO, the role is responsible for the farm’s performance, biosecurity, sustainability, maintenance, productivity, and adherence to top agricultural standards.
Essential Functions
- Strategy Formation and Implementation:
- Develop and execute strategic plans for the farm's establishment and growth, including CAPEX and OPEX resources.
- Conduct necessary research and analysis to identify expansion opportunities and secure water supply.
- Address complex issues, challenges, and opportunities to meet business objectives.
- Design and Construction Management:
- Oversee the design phase with various specialists to achieve optimal farm layout.
- Manage construction to meet timelines, budgets, and quality standards, ensuring contractors deliver on time and to required quality.
- Operational Management:
- Establish operational policies to maximize efficiency and productivity.
- Manage resources, including personnel and equipment, to ensure timely crop cultivation and harvest.
- Monitor crop production in relation to soil health and environmental factors for optimal yield and sustainability.
- Implement change management and innovation plans to improve cost or yield efficiencies.
- Compliance and Regulatory Affairs, Risk Management:
- Ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards.
- Maintain accurate records for reporting and auditing.
- Develop and maintain high biosecurity standards and implement risk mitigation processes.
- Financial Management:
- Develop and manage budgets, including capital and operating expenses.
- Analyze financial performance to identify cost-saving opportunities.
- People, Leadership, and Stakeholder Collaboration:
- Recruit, train, and supervise farm managers and staff to ensure high performance and morale.
- Communicate the farm's strategy and required actions.
- Coordinate with business stakeholders, especially dairy farm managers and production units.
- Promote a culture of quality, safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications and Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
- Master’s Degree or equivalent in Engineering, Agriculture, Agronomy, or related fields.
- PMP or relevant certifications in Project Management.
- 15 years of experience in managing farm operations and development.
- Proven track record in managing a large farm.
- Experience in resource planning, management, and organization.
- Experience with large-scale pivot irrigation.
- Strong background in data-driven decision-making.
- Understanding of agricultural economics.
- Senior leadership experience at the GM level.
- Experience managing multicultural teams and senior managers.
- Expertise in strategic planning, risk mitigation, and project management globally.
- Proficiency in global agriculture regulations and hydro/geological requirements for establishing high-quality arable farms.
- Skills in data analysis, decision-making under pressure, and quality control.
- Strong negotiation and project management abilities.
- Competence in costing, budgeting, and finance tasks, with the ability to guide and train others.
